  • Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a medical treatment that has been used in various fields, including cosmetics and dermatology, to stimulate tissue repair and promote cell regeneration. North Toronto Surgical is proud to offer physician-administered PRP in our state-of-the-art surgical facility.

North Toronto Surgical offers PRP therapy for both hair restoration and skin rejuvenation, harnessing the body's natural repair processes to stimulate the regeneration of hair and skin cells.

After 3-6 treatments, most patients will see a significant increase in hair thickness and density, improvement in skin texture, appearance of fine lines and brightening of skin.

  • After your consultation and full medical history, a small amount of your blood is drawn, usually from the arm. The blood is then processed in our on-site centrifuge machine, which separates the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from other components of the blood. The concentrated PRP, which contains a higher-than-normal concentration of growth factors, is extracted. When injected into the scalp, these growth factors are believed to stimulate and enhance the activity of hair follicles.

The prepared PRP is injected directly into the scalp, specifically in the areas where there is hair thinning or loss. This is done through a series of small injections across the affected region. You will need at least 3-6 treatments to see results.

A 2023 meta-analysis published in the Journal of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery found that PRP treatment showed a statistically significant increase in hair density, compared to placebo injections, especially for male patients. To learn more, please see this article.

  • Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is used for skin rejuvenation to promote collagen production, improve skin texture, and enhance overall skin tone.

After your consultation and full medical history, a small amount of your blood is drawn, usually from the arm. The blood is then processed in our on-site centrifuge machine, which separates the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from other components of the blood. Platelets in the PRP release growth factors, such as platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). These growth factors play a key role in stimulating collagen production, promoting cell growth, and supporting tissue repair.

The increased collagen production contributes to improved skin elasticity, firmness, and hydration. This can result in smoother skin texture, reduced fine lines and wrinkles, and an overall rejuvenated appearance.

The most commonly requested cosmetic PRP injection indications at North Toronto Surgical include:

    • Wrinkles and dark circles around the eyes

    • Wrinkles and volume loss in and around the lips

    • Deep nasolabial folds

    • Hand tissue volume loss and fine lines

    • Scar improvement

PRP has been used for many years in the cosmetic industry. However, 2018 marked the first time a randomized controlled trial was conducted to assess its efficacy in skin rejuvenation. In the study, by Alam et al., participants received PRP and saline injections on each cheek, with the PRP-treated cheek showing significant improvements in skin texture and wrinkles at the six-month follow-up. Elnehrawy et al. found that a single PRP injection produced favorable outcomes, particularly in nasolabial folds, crow's feet, and transverse forehead lines, with noticeable improvements observed within four weeks and the greatest progress seen in the eighth week.

Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®

Treatment time: 15- 30 mins
Recovery time: Minimal, return to regular activities within one day
Number of Treatments: Treatment is recommended every 3-4 months to maintain results

  • Neuromodulators such as Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin® are small injections that work by temporarily relaxing a muscle. When injected into specific facial muscles, they prevent contraction, which reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines caused by repetitive facial expressions. Botox® is commonly used to treat forehead wrinkles, frown lines, and crow's feet around the eyes.

Neuromodulator injections generally take effect within a few days. The duration of the effect varies depending on factors such as the amount of neuromodulator injected, the area treated, and your metabolism. Typically, the effects last for about 3 to 4 months.

Number of Treatments: 1-2 usually recommended for full effect
Average cost: $600-700 per syringe

  • Fillers are a type of cosmetic treatment used to add volume to tissue, smooth out wrinkles and fine lines, and enhance your natural features.

Juvederm® and Restylane® work by using a synthetic version of a substance your body makes naturally, hyaluronic acid, to fill in lines, wrinkles, and hollows. Fillers work by plumping up the skin and underlying tissues and can be used to enhance the cheeks, lips, and jawline, as well as to fill in hollow areas around the eyes and mouth. The filler material is injected into the targeted area using a very fine needle or cannula. The process is relatively quick and can be completed in just a few minutes.

Radiesse® is a unique type dermal filler that uses calcium hydroxylapatite to stimulate the production of your own natural collagen. Radiesse® can be used in various facial areas, such as smile lines, marionette lines, and areas experiencing volume loss, to provide immediate correction and stimulate collagen production for long-lasting results. Radiesse® is also commonly used to restore volume and improve skin texture on the backs of the hand.

  • The duration of the effect varies depending on factors such as the amount and type of filler injected, the area treated, and your metabolism, but in general, most fillers will last 6-18 months. Some patients have reported continuing to see benefit more than 2 years after treatment.

  • Fillers can be used in various areas of the face to enhance and rejuvenate the appearance. Some of the most common areas where fillers are used include:

Cheeks: Fillers can be used to add volume to the cheeks and create a more youthful, lifted appearance.

Lips: Fillers can be used to enhance the lips by adding volume and definition and correcting asymmetry.

Nasolabial folds: These are the lines that run from the corners of the nose to the corners of the mouth, and fillers can be used to fill them in and reduce their appearance.

Marionette lines: These are the lines that run from the corners of the mouth down to the chin, and fillers can be used to fill them in and create a smoother appearance.

Under-eye area: Fillers can be used to reduce the appearance of dark circles and hollows under the eyes.

Jaw contouring: Fillers can be used to create a more defined jawline to improve facial shape and decrease jowling by restoring volume to create a more youthful appearance.

Hand rejuvenation: Fillers are used to restore volume, minimize wrinkles, and enhance skin texture in the hands.

It is important to work with a qualified injector to determine the best use of fillers for your individual goals.
