Women’s Health Procedures

At North Toronto Surgical, we offer a range of in-office gynecologic procedures in a supportive, private setting. These services are available by appointment and are performed by female physicians.

We currently offer the following procedures:

  • IUD Insertions and Removals

  • Contraceptive Implant (Nexplanon) Insertion and Removal

  • Pap Testing (including HPV-based screening)

  • Endometrial Biopsy

Please bring your IUD or contraceptive implant with you to your appointment. If you do not yet have your device, you’ll need a prescription from your family doctor, walk-in clinic, or virtual care provider.

Recommended Devices:

We recommend the following Health Canada-approved contraceptives:

  • Mirena – 52 mg levonorgestrel IUD; up to 8 years of contraception and treatment for heavy periods

  • Kyleena – 19.5 mg levonorgestrel IUD; up to 5 years of contraception; smaller and lower dose than Mirena

  • Mona Lisa Copper IUD (5-Year) – Non-hormonal option; Mini version recommended if never pregnant

  • Nexplanon – 68 mg etonogestrel subdermal implant; effective for up to 3 years

If you are under 25, Mirena, Kyleena, and Nexplanon are covered by OHIP when dispensed with a valid health card and prescription.

Comfort and Pain Management Options

We want your experience to be as comfortable as possible. We offer the following options:

  • Cervical Nerve Block – Local anesthetic for IUD insertions and biopsies

  • Penthrox (methoxyflurane) – Inhaled analgesic providing short-term pain and anxiety relief

    • Self-administered under supervision

    • Cost: $100 (no HST)

    • Not covered by OHIP but may be reimbursed by private insurance

    • Needle-free, fast-acting, wears off quickly

    • Most patients can drive themselves home 30–45 minutes after the procedure

    • Let us know at check-in if you'd like to use Penthrox

A note about booking

A $50 deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your appointment. This deposit is refunded at check-in when you show your valid OHIP card. This deposit helps us reduce no-shows so we can maintain timely access for all patients.

Please note: The booking link is for patients with valid OHIP coverage. If you do not have OHIP, please contact us directly so we can assist you.
